PRP Skin Care Q & A

What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a vastly useful substance that people are using more and more to improve the health of their skin. The substance contains platelets and plasma, two components of your blood. Plasma is liquid and makes PRP an injectable substance, and platelets are cells that coagulate your blood and release growth factors to aid in healing.

To eliminate the red and white blood cells from a sample of your blood, Dr. C at Hera Healthcare places the sample in a centrifuge to force it into distinct layers. One of the layers, containing platelets and plasma only, is the PRP. She extracts it from the sample and uses it for your PRP skin care treatment.

Even if you take precautionary measures like avoiding direct sunlight and managing your stress in a healthy manner, your skin’s texture, tone, and other qualities tend to change with age. When applied to your skin or tissues, PRP stimulates cell regeneration to rid your skin of some of its less favorable features.

How do PRP skin care treatments work?

Dr. C combines PRP with microneedling to enhance your skin’s healing. This type of PRP skin care treatment is called a PRP facial, and it can make a big difference in the way that your skin looks and feels.

For a traditional PRP facial, Dr. C uses the Collagen Percutaneous Induction Needling (P.I.N.) device by Induction Therapies® that simplifies consistent microneedling. The pen-like device makes micro-injuries in your skin’s surface that your skin must heal. With a PRP application, this healing process is faster and more effective.

For another PRP facial option at Hera Healthcare, Dr. C uses the Potenza® radiofrequency microneedling device. The procedure is very similar to traditional microneedling but adds heat to your skin with gentle radiofrequency energy. The heat stimulates the production of new collagen fibers to firm your skin. Adding PRP speeds up and enhances the treatment even more.

What are the benefits of PRP skin care treatments?

PRP skin care treatments help your skin continue healing old scars and blemishes, as well as newer lesions. The growth factors from the platelets in PRP stimulate collagen production to make your skin stronger, firmer, and more youthful. A few specific benefits of the treatment include:

  • Tighter skin
  • Fewer wrinkles and lines
  • Fewer acne scars
  • Fewer injury scars
  • Fewer stretch marks
  • A more even skin tone
  • Smoother skin texture

PRP skin care treatments help you obtain these results in a very safe manner, alone or when combined with laser treatments for greater skin revitalization. Since PRP includes only components from your body, the chance that you may react negatively to its application is minimal. Dr. C performs the treatment meticulously to further protect you from skin irritation and other side effects.

Dr. C can examine your skin and inform you of the specific benefits you might see from PRP skin care treatments. To book a consultation, call Hera Healthcare, or use the online scheduling tool today.
